It would not have been my first choice, but I ended up seeing Oliver Stone's World Trade Center last night.
Late show, 3/4 full smallish size theater, wide age range, middle class Chicago suburb.
I didn't love it, nor did I hate it. I guess I was a bit surprised that the film didn't carry a bigger emotional punch. Its as safe of a film about September 11th as your likely to see. I perceived some very subtle open ended (political) statements, but over all there is nothing political about this film.
The script was fairly pedestrian leaning toward weak. The most shocking thing about the film is that Oliver Stone has made a very very tame movie (his first non R rated film). Not too far removed from something you might see on Lifetime, granted it had excellent production values. When it was over, myself, my friend and the rest of the patrons got up and exited. No one was overcome by emotion. No one was wiping the tears from their eyes. It seemed there was little or no impact from the film.
If it had been my choice.....Talladega Nights.
