ya know, even though no one's interested in my just darling winsome little griffles, i still somehow manage to have a good time. to wit: Wavy Gravy's 70th Birthday Party last night at the Berkeley Community Theater!
as previously shamelessly name-dropped, my MUTAYTOR buds Buck & Atom are producing the next Planet Drum CD, so they were doing a set with Mickey.
the Portuguese supermodel and I kicked it sidestage and got to enjoy some sweet solo David Lindley, some sublime solo Steve Earle (super nice guy, and blessedly outspoken), then Mickey & Friends did a half-hour. i sat in on one percussive jamsterpiece and was allowed to hit things with sticks - whee! Joan Baez joined us [very gracious all evening despite Buck and I disturbing her pre-show dressing room meditation whilst foraging for beers in the cooler...]. Merle Saunders came up for a slow dance with Joanie baby. Claypool on bass, too, whew! Bob Weir did a groovy & meandering set. John Trudell was there, too, but i misplaced the cojones to say hi. the air was thick with the smell of some exotic incense...twirling dancer quotient surprisingly low...Wavy in fine fool form & all proceeds went to the Seva Foundation. a damn good vibe and a grand ol' evening, the likes of which ya just don't get in the Shire. ha!
