Clown thief busted in attempted bank heist
Customer helps nab suspect
March 9, 2006 - A robber disguised as a clown during a bank robbery Thursday wasn't laughing when he was caught in the act.
"I was just in the bank cashing a check when all of a sudden Bozo the Clown came in and tried to rob the bank," said Kendall Larned.
Larned was in the Chase Bank Branch on North Wells just before 10 a.m. That's when, police say a man dressed in a clown suit tried to hold up a teller.
The clown thief almost made off with $6,000. But an off-duty police officer arrived in the nick of time to help Larned nab the suspect before he got too far.

"He was on his cell phone and walked in, saw him and walked back out, and we both chased him and caught him in a parking lot about a block and a half away," said Larned.

Police arrested the suspect shortly after. So far, no charges have been filed against him.
