David + David – Boomtown (2010 Classic Records) (2010)

This particular album was never released. It was produced in 2010.

A bit of a backstory. The company - Classic Records - started in 1994 and originally focused on Classical and Jazz re-issues for audiophiles. Over the years they expanded to include a broader category of music with an emphasis on important or critically lauded releases. The company was purchased by Acoustic Sounds in 2010.

Classic Records have released a number of albums as 45 RPM special editions (versus the standard 33 RPM for album releases). Since 45s travel faster than 33s, more waveform definition can be squeezed into the format, which takes up more room. More bumps and grooves created in pressing a 45 means better audio quality. It also means more plastic. This 45 RPM Boomtown takes up 4 single sided LPs.

As I mentioned, this was never released. 25 test pressings were made. The audio here comes from #4/25. You can see in the pictures - the box is white with several small stickers indicating the release name and not much more.

One more thing. As far as I can tell - this was remastered at Bernie Grundman Mastering by Grundman himself or Chris Bellman.

I posted about this before - but this release does include a bonus track - Good Times. It's a bit different than what appeared on Bedtime Stories

And lastly, it sounds fantastic! Truly the best. I've tried as hard as I could with the equipment I have to get the album back in the digital realm (sacrilege I know).
