I was not disappointed at all. I left the theater with a feeling that I had just shared in some real human issues. If you see as many films as I do, you know that the feeling of feeling connected to people on the screen is becoming a rare occurrence. I'd say at this point your more a victim of the hype around the film than the film itself maybe. Maybe you found these sad-sack human characters too real. Not for me to say.
For me the entire cast was great, across the board.
I think sometimes its about what you bring into any film with you, and how those little things can affect your perceptions and enjoyment of a film.
I think the last film I saw that shared that level of humanity was The Station Agent.
