Actually, I tend to disagree with that! Queenslanders are renowned for having a much broader accent than anywhere else in Australia.
You're right about the differences in speech though - I'm always surprised by eastern states people calling their suitcase a "port", and pronouncing the "l" in film (sounding like fillem). Weird...!
