That's actually a tough one for me, Gene. He put out all these
cassettes over the years and so I heard his songs in various
friends' cars and houses but never owned any because I didn't
have a cassette player, only a turntable. I've got a few of his
CDs now but no one of them really catches him.I guess it'd be best to get one of his 'Greatest Hits' collections,
'20 Greatest Hits' maybe. He put this out after he was pushed
by Garth Brooks and broke relatively big. It's got a lot of
duets and covers, like 'Copenhagen' sung with Toby Keith and
even 'Bang a Drum' with Jon Bon Jovi. It's all listenable though
and you can catch who he was as a performer. Garth Brooks
claimed that Chris LeDoux taught him how to work a crowd
and he did put on a good show. The last song on it is 'Western Skies', which is his song about
why he lived in Wyoming not Nashville. Listening to it now, it
may turn out to be my favorite song of his.
