Here I go again, dumping my list here on you all. Take it for what it's worth, jusr one man's taste in tunes.
In My Room
The other night went to see Jolie Holland play here in Phoenix. What a voice, what a subtle, but great band, what a great opener in Sean Hayes. I purchased a Ms. Holland's tour-only disc at the show. So here is a list of tunes that have been rocking my world of late.
-Athlete-"Tourist"Feck the critics! I love this downer of an album. I think Athlete topped the debut!
-Bright Eyes-"I'm Wide Awake It's Morning"-Conor's best album to date.
-Mary Gauthier-"Mercy Now"-The title track just gives me goosebumps. What a talent. If you like Lucinda Williams.
-Nathan-"Jimson Weed"-Canadian country/folk/rock band. Oh, those sweet voices and head bopping tunes.
-Mark Geary-"Ghosts"-Irish troubadour's finest set yet!
-M. Ward-"Transfiguration Of Vincent"- Matt's new disc drops Tuesday, can't wait.
-Brazilian Girls- "Brazilian Girls"- Funky, sexy, sweaty and all over the damn place, somehow it works.
-The Frames- "Burn The Maps"-Not my favorite Frames record. Sorry Frames fans, I love the band, but this is a letdown for me.
- Lemon Jelly-"64-95"- Wow, electronica at it's best. Best package design as well.
-Various Artists-"Sweetheart II"- You have to go to fecking Starbucks to buy this disc. I never shop there unless they release a disc worth buying. This is one of the greatest cover records/compilations I've ever heard.
-Various Artists-" Sounds Eclectic III" KCRW, the world's best radio station releases it's 8th disc. They never get it wrong.
-Iron & Wine-"Woman King" Much different then their last disc. A healthy progression to more blues influence. It's going to be interesting to see where Sam heads on the next full length. Oh, this is an EP. Worth buying if you're a fan.
Besides M. Ward's new disc. Tuesday(2/22/05) we see Clem Snide has a new one and a frw others as well. Think I'll pass on the REM re-issues. Just like Peter Gabriel, milking fans over and over.
