My favorite venue for Republican shamelessness is the state of
Idaho. Maybe ten years ago they spearheaded a campaign to
set term limits for state legislators - can't trust 'em if they've
been in office too long, need fresh blood etc etc. You've
heard the story. So the voters passed the the thing, all the
long-term legislators, including especially a number of long-
term Democrats, went away and the Republicans took over the
state.Once that happened, it turned out that term limits were not
such a bright idea after all so the Republican dominated
legislature voted them out and the Republican gorvernor
signed it into law. No popular vote was needed or desired.
All the current (mostly Republican) incumbents can stay in
office forever if they want to.Republicans uber alles.
