I'll try to help Jodi out here. I think you've misread "possums". She's referring to one of our weirdest exports - Dame Edna Everage AKA the comedian Barry Humphries - not sure if you get him/her over there? Anyhow, that's her trademark opener - Hello possums!
Incidentally, possums are nocturnal, arboreal mammals (marsupials). They've got big eyes and are really rather cute (unless you happen to have one or more living in your roof...). I think you guys call them opossums?
