Maybe some people are annoyed by canvassers at the door, but in NH anyways, this is something that is eternally part of their landscape--something they have a bit better understanding of, considering their primary is the first in the country.
As for getting the elderly, etc. to the polls by driving them--most decent candidate offices will have lists of people who need rides, assistance in getting to the polls. I remember doing this as far back as McGovern (not me driving, but family driving). People really do call campaign offices for this sort of thing--especially in smaller towns, rural areas. I personally wouldn't help someone to vote for Bush/Cheney, though. Just couldn't bring myself to do it. Nor the Nadar fellow.
