while it helps a bit, i don't think the context provided doesn't absolve him as much as you'd like.

why wouldn't one be perpetually concerned about nailing Bin Laden? he's the Babe Ruth of terrorism, an inspirational figure, legendary, The Man to many youngsters updating their resumes while pondering a (strike a blow against the imperial zionist-supporting aggressor and/or get virgins in heaven) lucrative career in terrorism for as long as it lasts - and having Osama's head on a stick would guarantee reelection quicker than anything Uncle Karl could scheme up.

plus, doesn't he owe it to the families of the WTC casualties [and America] to do all that can be possibly done in order to bring to justice the person responsible? i would think so.

still, i think Bush's statement was borne more of frustration than rockheadedness. either way, very poor communication....just one of the things for which he'll be historically known. i expect that in the years ahead we'll begin finding out what other ridiculous or counterproductive things he's said to allies and adversaries in private meetings.

and, sorry, but it doesn't appear that Bin Laddie's 'network' has been destroyed. such statements are common from anyone trying to project an aura of success and control over the uncontrollable. i'm not terribly up in arms about it but i do still think that his 'talents' could be more fully realized by putting him on display with a banana and a rope swing. ook ook.

(yeah, i enjoy 'elitist' humor, of whatever stripe. tell me that one about Herman Munster again, and put a fresh sassy twist on it!)
