Movies:
Drama - Once We Were Warriors: Plot Outline: A family descended from Maori warriors is bedeviled by a violent father and the societal problems of being treated as outcasts.
Donnie Darko: High schooler Donnie is plagued by visions of a giant evil rabbit who orders him to commit acts of violence and predicts the impending end of the world. (Better than the description reads)
Comedy - Boondock Saints: Fraternal twins set out to rid Boston of the evil men operating there while being tracked down by an FBI agent (A great turn by Willem Dafoe).
Bubba Ho-Tep: Bubba Ho-tep tells the "true" story of what really did become of Elvis Presley. We find Elvis (Bruce Campbell) as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his "death", then missed his chance to switch back. Elvis teams up with Jack (Ossie Davis), a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy, and the two valiant old codgers sally forth to battle an evil Egyptian entity who has chosen their long-term care facility as his happy hunting grounds.
Documentary: Paradise Lost- The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills: A horrific triple child murder leads to an indictment and trial of three nonconformist boys based on questionable evidence Also must include the follow up : Paradise Lost 2 Revelations I cannot recommend these two films enough.
TV:
Arrested Development : Level-headed son Michael Bluth takes over family affairs after his father is imprisoned. But the rest of his spoiled, dysfunctional family are making are making this job unbearable. I think this may be one of the most original and flat out funny sitcoms ever. First season coming out in DVD on Oct. 19th and a new Season coming in November to FOX TV.
The Tick: The live action series based on the comic book character. The writing is fantastic and Patrick Warburton in the role he was born to play. I may be partial to this one.
Thanks to the IMDB for the synopsiseseses.
