close enough to Halloween, i guess, so here goes. this first one is my fave. i have a personal one for later.
Justice Bill Newsom (the mayor's dad and a family friend) told this story many years ago at dinner. still gives me the creeps.
he was headed to London, to stay at the Getty's ancient house there. he arrived late at night, and the servants had retired. the room at the end of the hall had the door open, so he figured it had been left for him, as he was expected that evening.
he awoke an hour or two after falling asleep. the room was very cold, and he felt a heavy weight on his chest which prevented him from moving. at the foot of the bed, a yellowish female figure in a long dress was pacing back and forth, crying and glaring at him. he tried to turn on the light but it crashed to the ground. he could feel a 'get out' vibe from the spector, which he quickly did, waking the servants with his yelling and staying up til dawn in the kitchen with them, shaking and trying to drink tea. they told him that that room's door was always kept locked.
when i relayed this story to John Getty a few weeks later (we were in a band together at the time), he said, 'yeah, that's true. no one ever goes in that room.'
yikes!
next?
