I'm not sure why Alyssa is so keen on history. My husband is English and his Mum has many books on all things British. While consuming copious quantities of lollies, lemonade and chips (why else do you have grandparents), Alyssa goes through the books, and is allowed to take home (and usually keep) anything she fancies...

The Horrible History series is fantastic. They have titles like "The Rotten Romans", "The Vicious Vikings", "The Terrible Tudors" and so on. There are also Horrible Science and Horrible Geography books. I believe they're English - Mick?? They present all of the facts but spice it up with gory tidbits which enthrall the kids... They also have cartoon depictions and illustrations, so are not all writing. I might have been interested in history if it had been presented that way...
