Hi Brent,
I bought the CD "Wonderful Life" when it came out in 1987. I loved the melodies (often in a minor key - quite unusual) and instrumentation. Didn't hear much after that release on the radio here (Western Australia). Having said that, I shifted from the capital city to a small rural area in 1990, and don't get to hear much other than Top 40 junk. I picked up the "Master Series" - a best of Black (1996) - relatively recently, so heard a few more tunes. I'll have to look into his later releases.
There are quite a few British artists that seem undiscovered. Coldplay is getting plenty of airplay (deservedly - I love both of their CD's), but another outfit - Starsailor - which has a similar style (melancholy, melodic) are less well known. I also still keep up to date with LLoyd Cole - another singer-songwriter who has been producing quality stuff over 20 years or more...I'm showing my age!
