Lead singer from Midnight Oil, Peter Garrett, has announced that he has joined the Australian Labor Party and has been given a fast track for pre-selection into a safe Labor seat in time for the Federal election due later this year.

He is currently head of the Australian Conservation Foundation and has previously been part of another political venture - The Nuclear Disarmament Party.

Not sure if he's sold out his ideals or whether he's being pragmatic in recognising that you need to be affiliated with one of the major political parties to effect change...

The incumbent Liberal government is doing it's best to discredit Garrett (whose opinions on George W. Bush appear in line with the majority on this board). Will be interesting to see what unfolds...
