*raising my hand*

Uh...Kevin. Ok...lemme get this straight.  You said you don't understand why I'm not up in arms about the pro life/pro choice thing but I can be slightly peevish about the word fag.  Points to consider before you lump me in with any faceless group.

1.  I can choose my battles.

2.  I might be angry about the same thing you are and choose not to bring it up at this point. My posts are confusing enough as it is.

3. I might see that changing our language first might lead us to an environment in which will render MANY women's desire for an abortion obsolete.  (is that the right word?  Careful, I'm in new territory here...this is a big stretch and I have no specific research to back this up...so I'm goin' with my gut here.)

Research shows that kids and adults act more responsibly sexually when they have information about sex.  And by information, I don't mean porn or other stimulating material.  Considering the fact that from my sources (Gallup Poll, NPR Article from Jan regarding Sex Ed and more kids choosing abstinence) show that more sex ed leads kids to wait longer before having sex, one might think that info=less teen pregnancies. (that's implied by the study, not proven)

OK...here's my theory.  The less HATE BASED language there is that's acceptable, the more accessible information about healthy sexuality will be to kids. Then, using the previous formula of info=better choices...one can assume that when the nastyness and emotional garbage from the past is removed, the subject will be free of stigma and a real dialogue about healthy sexual choices can begin.

So...in my almost CONSTANT contact with unwed moms and pregnant teens, "ignorance" is the key ingredient.  A "natural" mother was barely a teen when her first baby was born.  She was afraid of the societal lables that would be put on her, so she "went to visit an Aunt" in Kansas, had a baby, gave the baby up for adoption and tried to return to her normal life....only to whelp a few more little bastards.  The first of this brood is writing this post to you now.  I don't know what happened to my bastard brothers and sisters but I hope that my natural mother eventually got it all under control.  Thank God for Adoption Agencies, huh?

So...y'wanna save babies? Fight ignorance.  If we remove the seedy and taboo elements from human sexuality, it's not making kids have sex more...it's arming them with knowledge and confidence to make better choices.

So...I hope that this clears up my stance on both issues.

Sincerely,

PRH

Oh...Dale is not a bigot!
