I was listening to Marketplace last night. Does that show that I'm getting old, or just getting smarter?  Anyhoo, they said the number of years between the last and penultimate Constitutional Amendments was 99 years or somethin' like that.  They talked about the money needed in order to push this thing through and I think, given the emotional baggage of this proposed amendment, it's not gonna fly.  I mean, if ERA didn't get off the ground, then neither will this.

Not to say we should open the Pink Champagne and Celebrate now.  It's really a money issue...an issue of tax and insurance that's wrapped up in emotion like a "pig-in-a-blanket" entree from an elementary school cafeteria.

The big money is NOT in the PAC's or Special Interest Groups supporting the human rights of same sex couples.  It's in the Insurance Groups and they stand to deal with a huge restructuring and big ol money shift if this Same Sex Marriages becomes a common and legaly binding thing.  So...If I were smart and I wanted to make things right, I would try to show how the insurance companies and the federal gov't will benefit from same sex marriages.  They're the ones who will REALLY fight this.

I don't know what to do with this, honestly.  But, perhaps, if we get another 99 years to debate it, someone will have a really good idea that will keep the big money from freaking out and will allow the emotional side of this to blossom like it should.
