Ok...I'm really heated.
Constitutional Right to Burn a Flag. It's ok. You can burn the flag, write your name on it, wear it upside down on your BUTT. (as long as it occurrs on your property or on the property where you have been given permission by the owner. Public property can have restrictions...on state and federally owned property, you must have permission from the government.)
But the 1st Amendment protects my right to think and express my thoughts about someone elses thoughts. So...if one is burning a flag, I can say pretty much anything, including the following:
1. Right on, man! You go and assert your freedom of speech and show that government what's what!
2. Don't be so disrespectful, man! Someone worked hard to make that flag!
3. Phewww! That stinks! Wish they made flags out of cotton like in the old days rather than that petrol chemical stuff!
4. You bastard, my Uncle fought and died at Guadacanal Defending that flag! You should move to Canada!
Four different perspectives on the same thing...some positive, some negative and all protected by freedom of speech.
So, regardless of how repugnant, you have to accept that our responses will come back. Sometimes positive, sometimes negative...but they will come.
Yours,
PRH
