Apparently by "the people" you mean the one Senator who blue-slipped the nomination?

Since it is widely known that Pickering would have gotten a majority vote in the Senate if the Dems had the balls to let him have one I would say it this way: "Finally Bush stands up for the will of the people and bypasses a few Senators who believe that they have a right to thwart that will using parliamentary chicanery".
