When you're from Butte, Montana, almost everywhere is quite different than what you're used to. Ouray sounds more familiar than most places, in fact - I'm very comfortable in old mining towns, whether they be Houghton, Michigan or Almaden, Spain or some old camp in Nevada or Idaho or Colorado. I've felt at home in Winnemucca, Nevada, where the background is Basque, and Window Rock, Arizona, where the culture is wholly Navajo, but was completely out of place in Arlington, Virginia (DC area) and U.S. big cities in general, since I can't fathom how people live like that. I guess it all boils down to where you're from, originally or currently.
