"The Censorship Issue and Kevin’s Comments"
First and foremost, my intention criticizing Dan and Pat on the new Customize Filter feature on the DB info source message board was not meant in harm or spite towards them or anyone on this board. I also did not realize that it would cause such debate and anger from folks. Funny thing is, words can hurt more than help at times. My main problem with the filter was with the idea that this would create a false representation of what the board is: A free speech forum for those who appreciate David Baerwald, politics and whatever a person has on his/her mind. By pointing out that it was created for the intention of removing one particular person who seems to have worn out his welcome with this board’s creators was done out of anger on my part. (Ken, if you read this, please and I mean PLEASE just be a good man and walk away!) I’m angry because I can see the future danger of this filter. I don’t want to see fellow board members edit out people that they don’t share a political party/belief/music tastes with. Example: The ‘left’ only sees posts by the ‘left’ and the ‘right’ only views posts by ‘right’ members. Is that the spirit of this board? Is that the message in David’s words and music? In calling this feature, "censorship" I caused quite a heated response from many of you and most denouncing the fact that it is not censorship. I strongly disagree with that! I believe that it is very much a case of "personal censorship"and it only reminds me of how certain people lead their lives."They only associate themselves with people of their kind",and that’s such an ugly way to live your life. This country is falling further into a division of two, and I just needed to vent my opinions on the fact that I would hate to see the board turn into a division as well. We all have our outlets for political viewpoints. Some of us listen only to Bill, Rush, etc. and some of us listen to NPR. I like the fact that you can view both the 'left', the 'right' and the 'punks', the 'progs' on the same page. I will choose not to use the customize feature, because I like seeing/reading Dale, Marc's posts, even though they piss me off most of the time.
Cheers everyone! and "peace the fuck out"
Kevin (from Arizona)
